I met my wife, Melissa, through the singles ministry at First Baptist Church, Huntsville, AL. After we married in 1992, we served as leaders in the singles department and lead retreats. In 1995, we moved to Tennessee to be closer to family. We have one daughter, Bethany.
I went to college at the University of South Alabama for undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology and counseling. During college, I was actively involved in the Baptist Student Union and directed off campus ministries which included college outreach to juvenile detention homes and working with geriatrics in nursing homes. After graduation while working in a private hospital setting, I felt called to pursue further education in Christian counseling. So, I headed to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, completing a MRE degree in psychology and counseling and two years in the Ed.D program.
While attending seminary I worked for Lutheran Social Services becoming the director of a residential treatment center for children. Since that time, I have worked in outpatient and private practice working with children, adolescents, marriage and family as well as individuals.
I enjoy camping, leading retreats and going to concerts with an eclectic taste in music.
