Nov. 19, 1947 the church was founded and called Immanuel, which means…
“God With Us.”
Our founding vision was & is:
“The establishment of a strong church on the west side of Lebanon.”
We exist to:
Exalt the King, Advance the Kingdom
Worship, Disciple-Making, and Evangelism all three priorities are seen in The Great Commission.
We exist to Exalt the King, and Advance the Kingdom. We do this by making WORSHIP, DISCIPLE-MAKING, and EVANGELISM our three top priorities. All three priorities are seen in The Great Commission of Matthew 28:16- 20.
The most important thing we do is our Sunday morning Worship and Disciple-Making Classes. The Scriptures call us to gather faithfully (Hebrews 10:24-25) and encourage one another. We stand strong in God’s Word and in praising the Lord every week and will always have an emphasis on sharing the gospel with those who don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
A History of Immanuel Baptist Church
From its inception, Immanuel Baptist Church has been a Christ-centered, Bible-preaching, mission-minded body of believers. Our founding vision was “the establishment of a strong church on the west side of Lebanon.” On November 19, 1947, a small group of twenty-six people met together to begin a Sunday School and a future church. “West End Baptist Mission” was the first name of this family of faith given in December 1947. In the Fall of 1948 the first lot was acquired on the corner of Castle Heights Avenue and Wildwood Avenue. Twenty-three people met on this property on May 7, 1949 for the ground-breaking of our first building. The original front door to the church building faced Wildwood Avenue.
On May 15, 1950, the mission was organized into a church, and voted to change their name to Immanuel Baptist Church. In the spring of 1951 Pastor Leonard Arbuckle was called to be the first full-time pastor of Immanuel. During his leadership “the church on the hill” grew from a congregation of 125 to a membership of 580 in 1959. In 1967, sanctuary seating to accommodate 860 people was made possible by adding the two outer “wings” on the ground-level of the auditorium. Immanuel has acquired 49 lots over the years and has built an additional four buildings for education and family ministry. Pastor Don Owens served as pastor for 37 years making our current Pastor John Hunn only the fifth pastor. Pastor John Hunn was a student at Cumberland University when he trusted in Christ as his savior by the witness of Immanuel members.
Immanuel has secured approximately 34 acres on Leeville Pike to further our mission to advance God’s Kingdom in Lebanon and around the world.
…Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” AmenMathew 28:18-20
